Meet the New Jeopardy Contestant

While I was searching the internet and came across something that caught me off guard and to be honest it scared me a little. The article which I came across was about a computer which was a contestant on Jeopardy.
The name of the computer is Watson and it was made by the people at IBM. It works because the people who made it put about 200 million pages of information in it. The information ranges from pages of the Bible, novels, and encyclopedias. The lead creator, David Ferrucci says that the computer quickly picks out many possible answers and uses phrases and other hints to answer the questions from the show.
Mr. Ferrucci says that Watson is not mistake proof and can flub up on occasion. One example of this is when in a sparring match, the question what do grashoppers eat was asked. The robot answered kosher. Ferrucci says that computer technology is not at the point were computers will run people's lives however it proves that artificial intelligence is farther advanced than I at the least released.
This article scares me and i kind of makes me scared that the people in charge do not tell us everything. It also makes me think that technology is farther advanced than we realize.

  1. Oh my goodness :( That is similiar to Google Earth and the governement and everyone else knowing where we live, being able to tap our phones and all that goes along with it. I wonder when will technology get so advanced that we won't even be needed to work anymore- will there be robots to do our jobs for us.. I mean, really?
    God Bless,
    Lauren :)

  3. I'm right there with you Matthew and Lauren...it is a little bit scary that there are all these robots that people don't know about or don't realize how advanced they are. And I think that one day robots will eventually be able to think and program themselves without the use of humans. If anyone watches Dr. Who, you know that is just a Dalek waiting to happen. I was recently reading something about a type of robot that can recognize itself in the mirror...creepy.

  4. If one day we are displaced by robot, What happened? How we look like? Became stupid people? This is a argument that has been taken place since many years ago. People create advanced technology in order to let them server us better. If humans depend on it and do not create something or do something by their brains. If robots totally replace us to take charge of the world, Where we are? I cannot image it.
