Be Careful what you Tweet

While i was browsing the internet, I came across this story about tweets and the needs for them to be censored. I believe that everyone has heard of the awful events that have occured in Japan. In response to this Gilbert Gottfried got fired from his job as AFLAC duck voice. Also a member of Mississippi Governor, Haley Barbour's people also lost thier job on the "jokes" they told about Japan. Rush Limbaugh and rapper 50 cent did not loose their jobs.

I believe that we need to think before we tweet and that it is a relief that i am not the only one who feels this way. The authors of the article says that their is a thin line between posting something good and not so good. However, according to the article two comediennes do not think so. Paula Poundstone says that it takes a lot of effort to get the joke in 140 characters or less. Lisa Lampanelli also feels this way. I have to side with the author and think that someway somehow we need to filter and maybe censor things we tweet. However, saying this i have no idea how this can be accomplished. 1. You definitely need to think before you say, type, text, tweet, whatever!! Especially when you could possibly affect someone reading it or when it could be possibly offenstive, especially in a time of tragedy. You know, everyone has a right to their opinion, but you should also always be respectful! :)

  2. Tweeting has become a popular thing and people don't care what they write or who they are offending. They feel as though since it's there social network they can post what they want but truth is they can't. They should have some respect and censorship for others and especially use better judgment with them being public figures.

  3. I agree that people need to have a little tact before they speak and making jokes about Japan is awful but censoring tweets goes against the first amendment.

  4. The Internet (and sites like Twitter and Facebook) was supposed to set us free...like Mary said, to express ourselves with our right to free speech, but I also think the Internet is part of the problem because even though we have right to express ourselves freely, I think a lot of people have forgotten how to do so in a thoughtful or intelligent way.

  5. I have a Twitter and some of the people that I follow clearly do not think before they tweet. They will just put anything out there and it is honestly so dumb. Seriously, people need to get a grip on themselves. I had not heard the story about Gilbert Gottfried though. He was dumb anyways.

  6. you know, whenever you want to tell something, just keep that in mind say it before thinking, because your opinion may influence someone's life or values. Not just in the facebook or twitter, be care of what you said.
